A fantastic day with the most wonderful hosts Iolo Williams, Barry and Luce who are truly incredible in their knowledge.
The day was well planned with a trip out in the morning visiting beautiful spots across mid Wales watching out for raptors and observing the ospreys nesting.
A lunch stop at a local pub with home cooked food and good old natter amongst the group was lovely. A good laugh was had by all.
The afternoon was spent with the wonderful raptors lovingly owned and cared for by Barry and Luce. This gives you the opportunity to get up close to the birds and learn so much about them.
A real treat to see was the Stellars Sea Eagle who is new to the family! Fascinating.
Vinnie the vulture was simply brilliant! Full of character and very engaging with his audience walking freely and keeping Iolo on his toes!
Throughout, the welcome, hospitality and kindness was wonderful.
Can I do it again today, tomorrow and the next day please!
Diolch Iolo, Barry, Luce and all of your bird family!

What can I say? This was easily the best day ever! We were on the full day experience hosted by Iolo Williams who is not a television star he is just an out and out perfect host whose passion for his job, aided by his excellent customer care really made for a magic day. However, there were two other outstanding hosts in Barry and Luce who run the experience. From the moment Barry met us when we arrived early, through to the tea and cakes (home made by Luce), the field trip to see Ospreys and other birds, back to the centre and a brilliant presentation by the very knowledgeable Luce and equally so Barry, plus the marvellous birds, including Vinny, this was a great day. It was nice to meet Iolo’s son Dewi as well. We will be returning for sure and I 110% recommend you visit this place, you won’t regret it.

Superb “Birds of Prey” day out in Mid Wales accompanied with our expert guides of Lolo Williams (BBC Springwatch etc), Barry & Luce from Falconry Experience Wales. Very organised, easy going and relaxed trip out, you cannot predict wildlife as to where its going to be but we did get to see Osprey in the nest but i would need the hubble telescope to take a picture so just rely on what i am saying lol The day ended with several birds of prey being shown from the Falconry Centre including a vulture (much vilified bird) but listen the facts (is there anything Barry and Luce dont know about vultures lol) they divulge to you throughout the demonstration and your views will change, also saw Goshawk, Kestrel, Bald Eagle, some big frickin owl (technical term lol), barn owl. I had a thoroughly great day and def recommend it.
This was a fantastic birthday “experience day.” Barry and Luce, who own the centre and host the day, were warm, welcoming, and generous in sharing their passion and knowledge. Their dedication to their birds, education, research, and wildlife conservation—especially of African vultures—is inspiring. You might even call them a little eccentric, and all the better for it! One of Martin Luther King Jr.’s advisers once said, “Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes your heart come alive and go do that, because what the world needs is people whose hearts have come alive.” That sentiment fits Barry and Luce perfectly.
Iolo Williams was an excellent host—friendly, endlessly informative, entertaining, and with us throughout the day. In the morning, he took us out to spot wild raptors, joined us for lunch, and spent the afternoon with us as we got to know the birds that live at the centre.
Lunch at a local pub was included, giving us a chance to relax and chat with others in the group. The food was good—but I wish I’d gone for the homemade lasagna!
In the afternoon, we met some of the birds cared for by Barry and Luce—some very up close! It was both strange and also somehow completely natural to find myself face to face with a vulture, one of the world’s largest eagles, and a British goshawk (which I’ve never even seen through binoculars before).
A brilliant experience—thank you, Barry, Luce, and Iolo!
